Lets look at a PSLE math question

Jim bought some chocolates and gave half of it to Ken. Ken bought some sweets and gave half of it to Jim. Jim ate 12 sweets and Ken ate 18 chocolates. The ratio of Jim's sweets to chocolate became 1:7 and the ratio of Ken's sweets to chocolates became 1:4. How many sweets did Ken buy?

looks easy but for a H1 math student like me, its damn bloody difficult.

ryan's sis-in-law says the answer is 64,

Sebastian says the answer is 68.

I can't even get an answer.

How to solve it?

According to Lina,

I can imagine in the future when my kid comes up to me with a primary three math question and i go 'uhhh...lets get a tutor'
